Despite such a strong hold on the poker market, PokerStars hasn’t been having the easiest ride the last year or so. In addition to Black Friday, they have also had to deal with losing some very key staff members.

First Thomas Kremser, the European Poker Tour director since September 2004, quit his job in May 2011. And then the creator of the European Poker Tour, John Duthie, decided to refrain from renewing his contract with PokerStars in December of the same year. It’s currently unknown what Duthie will pursue next. Trying to download Roulette and get into the casino industry is one option.

The most recent key PokerStars departure has been that of Gabi Campos, the CEO. He has been the CEO of the site for only 16 months, and he will be leaving his job on February 1, 2012. He joined the team back in October 2010, making use of the 3 years of experience he had gained with 888Poker.

Officials said that Campos is looking to pursue other opportunities and that his hard work and commitment have been appreciated by the company. As Lew fought through to the final hour of his record setting attempt, he found himself up under $100. That put him in quite the precarious position as he could easily ended up down money at the end of the session. One hand could put him in an awful spot with little time left.

However, Lew managed to eke out an extremely tiny profit in the end while playing just one table, finishing up $7.65. In the eight hour session he played 23,493 hands while playing an amazing 2,936 hands per hour. He earned 22,784 frequent player points while playing nearly 49 hands per minute. Lew was able to make it through the mammoth session to add yet another notch to his belt.

The player from Canada banked an impressive $1,146,574 in the end, which is more than the tournament usually guarantees in total! Then it was Martin Finger’s turn to run good. First he got dealt KK against A8 4-handed against Guillem Usero and held, and then he sent Levi to the rail with AJ versus 86.

When heads-up play started, the two players had stacks that differed by almost 2.5 to 1 in Finger’s favor. This didn’t stop Boyaciyan for making it a battle, however, and the two played for multiple hours.

When the last hand finally played out, it was Boyacian all-in preflop with TT versus Finger’s AK. Finger was pleased to see a KK6 flop, leaving Boyacian with two outs and two streets. None of the remaining tens came, which meant that Finger was the proud owner of an EPT title and €720k!

The buy-in for the recent Lake Tahoe circuit event was $1,600, with 327 players paying to take part. There were two Day 1s, and then 181 total players went on to play Day 2. Day 3, the final day, saw only 11 people make it. And then it took just 30 minutes for a 9-man final table to be formed!

Casey McCarrel was in a good spot when the final table started, but he was destined to be the first elimination. First he doubled Chris Clark up a few hands into the final table. A mere ten hands later, he got it in with an overcard and flush draw against Ron Segni’s top pair and busted.

Daniel Lowery decided to take Segni’s newfound chips in a pot where he hit a boat and Segni hit top two. Lowery then hit another boat versus Joe Fernandez, which sent Fernandez to the rail in 7th place. These pots gave Lowery an impressive stack that consisted of half the remaining chips in play.

Segni was still alive once it got 3-handed, but Bryan Schultz ended up busting him in third place. Segni took home over $50k, which is a lot of money for video poker online.

Schultz’s elimination of Segni helped to lessen the chip lead Lowery once had. As such, the two players decided to speed up the tournament once it became heads-up. Not wanting to play for hours, they decided to remove three blind levels.

It didn’t take long for the match to end. Schultz got it all-in preflop with J9dd, and Lowery made the call with AJ. Lowery was dominating preflop, but Schultz hit a flush post flop which left Lowery crippled. He couldn’t come back, which meant that Schultz was the 2011 Lake Tahoe WSOPC champion!

Things got started very quickly. Lamb and Staszko got involved in a huge pot preflop which resulted in a flip: Lamb had KJ and Staszko held 77. The chip lead exchange that would follow soon afterward is unlike anything I have ever seen on the Bodog Poker download. Heinz maintained his chip lead for around 30 hands, and then Staszko took it back with a huge bluff. He kept the lead for around 30 hands himself before Heinz regained the chips. But Heinz only kept the chip lead for around 15 hands this time.

Staszko kept this chip lead for a very long time. Heinz faltered enough to let Staszko get him down to just 25bb, his lowest stack of the final table. He didn’t let this get him down, however; in fact, he was about to win the biggest hand of the tournament.

Heinz held the AQ of hearts and decided to get the last of his chip in the middle on a KT7 flop. He was ahead of Staszko’s Q9 of clubs, but barely. He managed to fade a zillion outs and won the hand that was destined to be the turning point of the match.

Staszko, now with the short stack, was forced to make a move. He jammed all-in with T7cc just 8 hands later, and Heinz called with AK. Heinz’s hand was able to hold, which meant that he was the new world champion of poker! This is the first time a German has won the WSOP Main Event.

The House of Representatives is no stranger to online poker, thanks to the constant efforts of Barney Frank. By contrast, the Senate have not touched the issue since the original UIGEA was passed in 2006.

That’s all changed this week, thanks to a full blown hearing having been held. It was entitled ‘Future of Internet Gaming: What’s at Stake for Tribes?’ and took place on November 17th. It concerned how the existing online gambling marketplace is affective Native American groups and what a regulated market might mean for them. It was designed to consider not only poker, but games like real money slots.

It’s almost traditional in the U.S. for Indians to run casinos and many are understandably concerned about the impact of online gambling on their lifestyles. The hearing was called to consider how the influx of offshore providers like the titan poker download and the recent DoJ action impacts on the livelihoods of the Tribes. Invited to speak at the event was Poker Players Alliance Chairman, Alfonse D’Amato. The long time poker proponent is no stranger to the seat of power, having served as a Senator himself. Proceedings took place in the House Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade, meaning that both house and Senate have tackled online gambling in the past few weeks.

“It’s encouraging that the House subcommittee is acting so quickly,” said John Pappas. “They could have punted to after Thanksgiving, but they chose to tackle it before the break.”

Online poker legislation appears to be picking up steam again and players around the world will be hoping for a regulated market to open up in the U.S. Meanwhile, online video poker fans will also be hoping that any legislation that passes does not exclude non-poker games.
