$1 Million Prize Pool in the PokerStars Red Spade Open

As discussed in previous entries, PokerStars does an amazing job when it comes to Sunday Majors and other special Sunday tournaments. They have had the best scheduled MTTs for a while now, and they show no sign of stopping that dominance.

Sites like the Everest Poker download have the potential to give them a run for their money, but PokerStars is still number one in the industry when it comes to exciting promotions and announcements. Their Sunday tourney schedule is about to get even more exciting with the addition of a couple new MTTs.

The first of these two additions will be a regular part of the schedule as PokerStars adds a brand new Sunday Major in the Sunday Cubed. It features a $55 buy-in No Limit Hold’em tournament with an optional $50 for a rebuy and $50 for an add-on. The guaranteed prize pool is a handsome $50,000 every week.

Like the Titan Poker bonus code, the Sunday Cubed is marketed heavily towards players in the Eastern Hemisphere due to its 5:00 AM EST start time. People on the west coast of Canada won’t be playing it, but it’s a far fetched option for those on the… READ MORE

PokerStars Leagues for Finland, Australia, New Zealand, and Norway

There are a lot of poker rooms for you to choose from, especially if you live outside of the United States. While everyone is able to make a Bodog Poker download, a few of the other sites out there specialize their marketing to specific areas of the globe.

An example of a site that doesn’t put all their eggs in one basket is PokerStars. In order to market in specific places in the world, they host a lot of promotions that are restricted to certain places in the world. An example of this is in their poker leagues.

If you want to join a poker league on the PokerStars download, you play specific tournaments so that you can compete for leaderboard points. The more points you earn, the higher up on the leaderboard you place. The top players receive pre-determined prizes and, of course, bragging rights.

Right now there are three different regional poker leagues on PokerStars, and I will spend the rest of the article discussing them.

Players from Australia and New Zealand get to play for monthly cash prizes, and the amount that they can win depends on the division they choose to play in. If… READ MORE

Win 6-figures by Playing PokerStars Sunday Majors

If you are a tournament player, you probably know that the best US poker sites have big guarantees for their Sunday MTTs. PokerStars recently made their Sunday Majors earlier in the day so that they better suit those that live in Europe.

Your first opportunity to play a PokerStars Sunday Major is at 8:00 AM ET. The buy-in of the tourney is $109, and it has a prize pool of at least $75,000. At 12:00 PM there is another $109, but this time it is a rebuy tourney. And this time you’ll play for a $200k minimum prize pool.

The 2nd largest guarantee of the week on PokerStars is found in the Sunday Warm-Up which kicks off at 11:00 AM ET and features a $500k prize pool. The entry fee for this tourney is $215.

Microstakes players get a Sunday Major at 1:30 PM ET. This tournament also has a $200,000 guarantee, but the buy-in is just $11!

The featured and most advertised tournament on the PokerStars download is called the Sunday Million. The guarantee is a gigantic $1 million, and the buy-in is an affordable $215. This tourney offers the chance at a 6-figure payday.

PokerStars Introduces the Saturday Lineup

If you are looking to win huge in a poker tournament, there is no doubt that the weekend is where it’s at. The majority of people have Saturday and Sunday off from work, which could mean a lot of free time to sit at the tables. Because of this, the number of players that download PokerStars goes way up when it’s time for the weekend.

Saturday has always been a busy day for the top Texas Holdem sites, but typically there aren’t weekly tournaments that only take place on this day. This is the complete opposite of Sunday, which hosts several MTTs with huge guarantees on almost all poker sites.

PokerStars decided to fill this gap in the tourney schedule and create what they call the Saturday Lineup. The Saturday Lineup consists of 7 special MTTs that run exclusively on Saturdays. All of them have guaranteed prize pools, and they cater to those that play small stakes.

The first event is quite early at 7:00 AM ET, and it features 6-max NL Hold’em. You can buy-in for $22 and the guarantee is $30,000.

The Saturday Micro is a $3.30 event made for those with small bankrolls. The guarantee… READ MORE

Choose Your Favorite PokerStars Main Event

When it comes to picking a poker site, things such as poker bonuses and game variety are usually important to people. Some sites are better for cash games than others, and tournaments might be a bigger priority for other sites. If you also really enjoy playing in brick-and-mortar rooms, live tournament satellites might also be important to you. PokerStars has always offered a variety of live satellites, but a recent change has made getting into huge live events even simpler.

I recently mentioned that PokerStars does not have any promotions for the WSOP this year. The PokerStars download doesn’t actually have any WSOP Main Event satellites at the moment. This does not mean that you can’t get into the WSOP Main Event via PokerStars though. There is something called the Main Event Passport that will get you to Vegas.

A Main Event Passport makes you eligible for more than just the WSOP. Upon winning a Main Event Passport, you have five options: the WSOP Main Event or one of four PokerStars tours. If you decide to go with a PokerStars event, your choices will be between the EPT, APPT, PCA, and LAPT.

The Main Event Passports are valued… READ MORE

Changes for PokerStars Player this Year in Vegas

Because of the US indictments back on April 15th, people residing in the US are no longer able to download PokerStars. Everyone else in the world received a much better fate as they are still welcome to play on the site, but they have still been affected by some changes that have resulted.

Some of the changes have been good. Here is an example: Europeans were dealt a SCOOP schedule that was much more European-friendly than in other years. Some of the changes have been bad, however. An example: tournaments now have much smaller prize pools than before.

Some people will also be disappointed about the lack of PokerStars presence at the WSOP this summer. Years past have enjoyed some huge WSOP incentives courtesy of PokerStars. For example, there was a year that saw people automatically become Supernova just for playing the Main Event donning a PokerStars logo. They also had final table incentives for those willing to sport PokerStars gear during the November Nine.

All of this was back when PokerStars was one of the best US poker sites on the Internet. With all their recent problems with the Department of Justice, they are not taking any… READ MORE

Annual PokerStars SCOOP

If you chose the PokerStars bonus code because you love huge prize pools, you will be pleased to know that SCOOP is just around the corner. SCOOP is an acronym for Spring Championship of Online Poker, and it is a series of online tournaments with huge guaranteed prize pools. If your bankroll is small, you don’t need to worry because SCOOP features low, medium, and high buy-ins for each of its events.

SCOOP 2011 features 36 different events between May 8th and May 22nd. The weekend events take place at 10:00 ET and 14:00 ET. Weekdays see events three times per day at 11:00 ET, 2:00 PM ET, and 5:00 PM ET. Last year, when PokerStars was still the best online poker site for Americans, the events started much later in the day than this. Since US players are no longer permitted on the site, the start times were changed to accommodate more European players.

This series has been designed to suit the needs of all kinds of players. There are, of course, plenty of No Limit Holdem tournaments. Event 1 features 6-max at buy-ins of $22, $215, and $2,100, and the guaranteed prize pools are $200k, $500k,… READ MORE

Pogo650 Receives $102,090 for PokerStars Milestone Hand

If you prefer ring games above everything else, chances are you were scouring the PokerStars download for open tables on March 29th. PokerStars was scheduled to deal their 60 billionth hand that day, and there were plenty of great prizes to be won. There was the potential to win thousands of dollars in bonuses by participating in milestone hands.

The best prize was, of course, reserved for the 60 billionth hand. Like the other milestone hands, the bonus money received was calculated by multiplying the number of VPPs received in the previous fifty hands by a predetermined dollar amount. The 60 billionth milestone had a predetermined dollar amount of $500. The goal was to win the 60th billionth hand, however, because the winner was to receive even more money than this. Not only would their winnings be doubled, they would also receive $60k!

Since some people viewed this promotion as even more PokerStars rakeback, the number of ring tables was staggering. Even players that didn’t usually multi-table were doing so in order to increase their odds of hitting that milestone hand.

Thousands of cash game players were disappointed when the 60 billionth hand was finally dealt at a… READ MORE

PokerStars Back with the Americas Cup of Poker

PokerStars may be one of the best US poker sites online, but they know that there is more to poker than just the United States. They actively advertise in almost every continent, creating interest with exciting promotions that vary depending on the part of the world. If you live in either North or South America, check out the Americas Cup of Poker.

In the Americas Cup of Poker, Team PokerStars Pro players and PokerStars.com qualifiers compete for their home country. If your team is in the top eight after the preliminary rounds, you will get to play in a live final for $100k in prizes! This year’s live final is scheduled to take place in Rosario Argentina from May 30th to 31st.

Participating in select online tourneys will earn points for your country. These tournaments also enable you to earn points for yourself. This is important because the players that earn the most points for their country will receive a spot on their team in Argentina.

The PokerStars download has been hosting the points tournaments since March 18th, and they will be running until April 13th. The tournaments feature buy-ins between $0 and $11, which gives people of… READ MORE
