Gabi Campos Steps Down as PokerStars CEO

While it is true that sites such as the Titan Poker and William Hill Poker download are considered competitors of PokerStars, these sites don’t offer the same kind of game variety or player base. That is why PokerStars has stayed the biggest site by a large margin for quite some time now.

Despite such a strong hold on the poker market, PokerStars hasn’t been having the easiest ride the last year or so. In addition to Black Friday, they have also had to deal with losing some very key staff members.

First Thomas Kremser, the European Poker Tour director since September 2004, quit his job in May 2011. And then the creator of the European Poker Tour, John Duthie, decided to refrain from renewing his contract with PokerStars in December of the same year. It’s currently unknown what Duthie will pursue next. Trying to download Roulette and get into the casino industry is one option.

The most recent key PokerStars departure has been that of Gabi Campos, the CEO. He has been the CEO of the site for only 16 months, and he will be leaving his job on February 1, 2012. He joined the team back in… READ MORE

Randy Lew Sets Poker Record at the PCA

Randy “nanonoko” Lew has been well known amongst the poker community for quite some time now as one of the best online cash game professionals in the world. He’s been a Supernova Elite every year since 2007, collecting the maximum PokerStars rakeback possible.

His achievements caused him to become part of Team PokerStars Pro. Furthermore, he recently hit a nice score in the live arena, taking down the PokerStars Asia Pacific Poker Tour stop in Macau for $483,857. And now he can add a Guinness World Record to his resume.

For a while before the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, Lew had been asking on his Twitter for suggestions for breaking a World Record while in the Bahamas. In the end he decided to attempt to play the most number of hands in eight hours while remaining profitable. I think it might have been easier to try to break a record involving Bingo codes!

On Sunday January 8th, he started out playing roughly forty tables of $0.25/$0.50 No Limit Hold‘em at one time and kept that up for the majority of the eight hour stint. During the grind he took absolutely no breaks, ate nothing and had zero trips to… READ MORE

Players Rake in the Dough with PokerStars Anniversary

It is safe to say that PokerStars celebrated their tenth birthday in style. By giving out poker bonuses and hosting huge tournaments, records were shattered and millions of dollars were won. This entry will talk about the huge MTTs that took place this past month.

The first huge anniversary tournament was on December 4th, and it was the World Record Tournament. The guaranteed prize pool was $250,000, and the buy-in was only $1! PokerStars also capped the event at 200,000 people, which meant that they were adding at least $50,000 to the prize pool.

Despite the large number of players, the tournament only took 7 hours to complete. The final three remaining chopped the prize pool, with Russia’s Sokoluk1991 taking home the most at $40,258. Not bad for a $1 investment!

You may know that the Sunday Storm, an $11 Sunday tournament, usually has a guarantee of $200,000. For its anniversary, PokerStars decided to change the guarantee to $1 million on December 11th! They also put bounties on their pros: $100 for every Team PokerStars bust. If you wanted a way to earn extra PokerStars rakeback, this was it!

Remarkably, the tournament surpassed its guarantee since 116,400… READ MORE

PokerStars Looks to Set Records on their Tenth Anniversary

The 10th anniversary for PokerStars is coming up, and the site has decided to celebrate in style. They have announced some truly amazing tournaments for next month, which is sure to make December a month to remember for some poker players.

You may already know that back when PokerStars was one of the US friendly poker sites online, they broke the Guinness World Record for the biggest poker tournament in history. Back then an astounding 149,196 people played, but PokerStars thinks they can break this record yet again.

On December 4th the 10th Anniversary World Record Tournament will take place, and PokerStars wants at least 150k people to play. To help this happen, they have set the buy-in at a measly $1, but they have made the guaranteed prize pool an impressive $250k. To ensure incredible value for its players, the site has also capped the tournament at 200k players. When else can you play a tournament with GUARANTEED overlay?

PokerStars is the wrong place to go for video poker, but it is the right place to go for the Sunday Storm. Despite the small buy-in of $11, this tournament guarantees an impressive $200k every week! On December… READ MORE

Andrey Pateychuk Wins EPT San Remo

PokerStars is known as one of the best Euro poker sites thanks to the European Poker Tour. The eighth season of the EPT wrapped up recently as a winner was crowned at the fourth stop of the season in San Remo, Italy.

The tourney cost €4,900 to enter, and 847 people participated which created a rather large prize pool of €3,734,694. It meant that the winner of the tourney would receive €680,000. Think of how much Deal or No Deal online this would allow you to play!

Season 6 EPT Berlin winner Kevin Macphee was the short stack when the final table started, and Andrew Pateychuck was sitting on the 4th place stack. PokerStars Pro Johnny Lodden finished on the final table bubble in 9th place for €45,000. Lex Veldhuis, another PokerStars Pro, finished slightly behind him in 15th place for €22,000.

Macphee caught a string of icy cold cards at the final table and folded his first 34 hands. On the 35th hand he finally decided to push from the small blind with 65o. Unfortunately for him, poker pro Barny Boatman made an excellent call with Q7s. Macphee whiffed and was out abruptly in 8th place.

PokerStars World Cup of Poker Returns

PokerStars has long been credited as one of the most exciting money poker sites of all time. However, this has not stopped them from continuing to seek out new ways to satisfy existing players and attract new ones. If you have played poker for a while, you might know all about the World Cup of Poker.

The World Cup of Poker gives the average player a great chance to represent their country in a tournament versus other countries. People that love sandy destinations will be happy to hear that the big event takes place on Paradise Island during the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA).

PokerStars named the World Cup of Poker after the prestigious soccer event of similar name. Each team has different positions that were inspired by the popular sport. There were four open spots on each team, and to receive one, a player had to download PokerStars and win an online qualifier outright. These qualifiers took place this past weekend on Saturday and Sunday.

Players were able to compete for one of three positions that were open to everyone. The goalkeeper position was a freeroll. The defender position was a $1.10 buy-in. And then to receive the… READ MORE

PokerStars VIP Requirements 1/10 the Usual in August

The World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) is less than a month away, and PokerStars has rolled out yet another excellent promotion called the VIP Club Mega Month. It will enable players to have a much better shot at gaining entry to the big buy-in WCOOP tournaments.

VIP Mega Month means that August has become awesome because now it will take just 10% of the normal VIP Player Points (VPP) requirement to get SilverStar status and up. PokerStars already has one of the best VIP programs of all the money poker sites, and now they have made it easy for players of all bankrolls to take advantage of the perks.

To earn SilverStar status it usually takes 750 VPPs, but this month it will only take 75 VPPs. Then it’s 300 VPPs for GoldStar (rather than 3,000) and 750 VPPs to get PlatinumStar (rather than 7,500). Or we can look at it in terms of rake required. You need to spend a mere $14 in tournament fees to achieve SilverStar, and you have to pay $140 total to get PlatinumStar.

Becoming a PlatinumStar gives players a chance to earn a huge number of frequent player points (FPP). When a… READ MORE

$1 Million Prize Pool in the PokerStars Red Spade Open

As discussed in previous entries, PokerStars does an amazing job when it comes to Sunday Majors and other special Sunday tournaments. They have had the best scheduled MTTs for a while now, and they show no sign of stopping that dominance.

Sites like the Everest Poker download have the potential to give them a run for their money, but PokerStars is still number one in the industry when it comes to exciting promotions and announcements. Their Sunday tourney schedule is about to get even more exciting with the addition of a couple new MTTs.

The first of these two additions will be a regular part of the schedule as PokerStars adds a brand new Sunday Major in the Sunday Cubed. It features a $55 buy-in No Limit Hold’em tournament with an optional $50 for a rebuy and $50 for an add-on. The guaranteed prize pool is a handsome $50,000 every week.

Like the Titan Poker bonus code, the Sunday Cubed is marketed heavily towards players in the Eastern Hemisphere due to its 5:00 AM EST start time. People on the west coast of Canada won’t be playing it, but it’s a far fetched option for those on the… READ MORE
