$1 Million First Prize in Epic Poker League

The first Epic Poker League event is in the books as the four day MTT wrapped up in exciting fashion. The tournament took place on Vegas, started on August 9th and finished up on August 12th. It featured 137 entries at $20,000 a pop with $400k donated to the prize pool by the league itself. When everything was said and done, first place was an incredible $1 million. If you like online casino gambling, $1 million could go a very long way!

The final table was unsurprisingly tough with an incredible 16 WSOP bracelets amongst the players. Two of the hottest players in the world were at this final table: Jason Mercier (a pro of the PokerStars download) and Erik Seidel. Mercier has had an incredible amount of success in live tournaments for a few years now. It can be argued, though, that Seidel is having one of the most impressive years of tournaments the poker world has ever seen. Before the final table Seidel was up a whopping $5 million on the year with four outright wins and two scores over $1 million.

The Epic Poker League

Palms Resort Casino in Las Vegas, one of the most popular casinos for USA players, had the pleasure of hosting the first Epic Poker League Main Event. Prior to the Main Event was a $1,500 Pro/Amateur tourney that saw 190 people enter. Those that finished in the top 9 gained entry into the Main Event.

On top of that another 128 pros put up the $20,000 entry fee, which set the final field at 137 players. The total prize pool was $3,085,200 when it was all said and done since $400,000 was added to it.

The field was, of course, filled with a staggering number of tough pros as per the goal of Epic Poker League. Many of the online poker best came out, as well as many live pros. Since the event had a 6-max format, it was guaranteed to be an extremely exciting event.

The blinds started at 100/200 and the starting stacks were 50,000. People had plenty of time to build their stacks with 90 minute levels. There was a lot to play for since 1st place awarded an astounding $1,000,000.

Epic Poker League to Show 20 Hours on TV

Even after the trouble a few of the US poker sites have gone through, Americans are still very interested in the game. This is demonstrated in the excitement people have over the Epic Poker League, which was put together by Annie Duke and former World Series of Poker commissioner Jeffrey Pollack.

Epic Poker League was designed to allow established professional poker players to go head-to-head with each other. They have measured the top tournament players in the world using their new Global Poker Index. Using the Index, they picked out the best 200 players in the world (according to them). So how will Epic Poker League show the games between these players? It just so happens that they recently locked up a platform, too.

The League was able to strike up a deal with two TV networks: CBS and Velocity (a new network created by Discovery). These deals mean that 20 hours of Epic Poker League will be broadcast, with 7 hours on CBS and 13 hours on Velocity.
