Ivey Boycotts the WSOP and Blames Full Tilt

People around the world were shocked when they found out that Phil Ivey took action against Tiltware, known for offering some of the online poker best games around. The former Full Tilt pro is asking for $150 million to cover the money he has lost due to damage to his reputation.

The problems have been rampant with Full Tilt ever since Black Friday. Their recent problems stem from the issue that their American players have not been paid back even though they allegedly reached an agreement with the Department of Justice. PokerStars players were paid back weeks ago, which makes the situation even worse for this download free poker site.

Ivey is unhappy with the way the site has handled the problems. Moreover, he has said that his “name and reputation have been dragged through the mud” thanks to “inactivity and indecision”.

In support of his efforts, we will not see Ivey in any WSOP event in 2011. He brought up the fact that since many Americans have money trapped on Full Tilt, they are unable to compete in WSOP events. He feels that it is morally wrong for him to play when so many fellow players can’t.… READ MORE

Rich Muny Appointed PPA Player Liaison

There’s news of a shake up at the Poker Players Alliance, with Rich Muny becoming Vide President of Player Relations. Rich is best known in the online poker community under the handle of TheEngineer2008. He has become a permanent fixture on both Twitter and 2+2, regularly advising and encouraging players on a variety of legal issues.

With the events of Black Friday still looming large, liaising with players has become even more important for the PPA. The situation for US friendly poker sites is increasingly unclear. Even live home games can sometime walk a fine line between legality and illegality.

The primary function of the PPA is to represent poker players in Washington. To do that, they need to know what issues are concerning U.S. players. Muny had been unofficially collecting that information for some time. In addition, he had taken it upon himself to relay important updates from the PPA about their lobbying efforts on Capitol Hill.

In addition to his new role, Muny continues to sit on the PPA board of directors, tasked with defining the outlook and strategy of the lobbying group. Chairman Alfonse D’Amato commented on Rich’s appointment in a statement released last week.

Poker Players Rally on Capitol Hill

As part of their movement for US poker sites, the Poker Players Alliance (PPA) put together a Washington D.C. fly-in on the 24th of May. By bringing a number of poker supporters to Capitol Hill, the group hoped to showcase the fact that online poker needs regulation.

In total around fifty people participated in the rally. The PPA paid for 24 members to fly-in, including a variety of their state directors. Around 12 regular PPA members also flew out. While they weren’t able to get themselves to Capitol Hill, fifty other members made up for it by scheduling meetings with people in their home states.

The PPA’s executive director seemed slightly disappointed by the turnout numbers. He said, “We did all we could and those who could make it made it, and we appreciate them being there.” He also said that the rally was an overall success, especially since organizers only had 3 weeks to put it together.

There should be no doubt that every effort helps when it comes to defending casinos for USA players. A couple Congressmen have mentioned that online poker would not be a topic of discussion for them at all if not for… READ MORE

Online Poker Players Look to Move to Australia

People currently living in the United States no longer have a lot of options when it comes to playing poker. PokerStars, UB, and Full Tilt Poker no longer accept Americans, so you will need to go with a smaller network if you want to play online. For instance, you might want to go with a True Poker download. Your other choice is to play live poker.

Small sites and live play just wont do it for a lot of Americans, and so they are thinking of moving to a new country. Obviously this is not a great choice for players with families or jobs, but others might realize that it is a chance for them to see the world. Today I will talk about the possibility of moving to Australia.

It may sound like a good idea to move to Australia so that you can continue to earn PokerStars rakeback, but don’t be too hasty. The first thing to figure out is what kind of documents are required for entry into the country.

To get into Australia, you must obtain an electronic travel authority, otherwise known as an ETA. An application for this has to be made outside… READ MORE

Lederer and Ferguson Resign From PPA Board

Following the Black Friday indictments, most of the world’s ire has been directed at PokerStars, Full Tilt, Absolute Poker, and UB. The latter three, in particular, have come under attack for continuing to block U.S. withdrawals, despite reaching an agreement with the U.S. government. All in all it’s been a bad time for the former top texas holdem sites.

However, other ancillary groups have also caught some flack. The Poker Players Alliance claim to have worked tirelessly for years to promote the case of online poker on Capitol Hill, yet their efforts did nothing to prevent the problems of recent weeks or seriously advance any bills that would legalize online poker.

Despite this, the PPA continue to lobby Washington and are still seen as a positive force by many onlookers. What might have called their impartiality into question was the presence of two Full Tilt founders on the PPA board. Both Howard Lederer and Chris Ferguson were part of the decision making team, but have now resigned from these positions.

Although the details of Full Tilt’s origins are shrouded in mystery, Lederer is widely regarded as one of the instigators. It is reported that Ferguson was instrumental in developing… READ MORE

Senator Jon Kyl Softens His Anti-Poker Stance

The maelstrom that was Black Friday has thrown up all sorts of interesting results. Among them, renewed chatter about the potential for online poker’s legalization. As the news of the DoJ’s indictments spread to the mainstream media, more and more outlets are discussing the likelihood of a regulated and taxed online poker market.

This has also spurred politicians and advocacy groups to up their rhetoric, almost all of them calling for the full legalization of online poker or condemning the strong-arm tactics of the FBI. Posting on a poker forum to lodge your outrage has become a regular occurrence.

One member of the Capitol Hill brigade you’d least expect to lend poker a sympathetic voice is Jon Kyl. The Arizonan senator was one of the prime supporters of the UIGEA . The 2006 bill effectively outlawed online gambling and practically ripped the industry in two. The list of PartyPoker were forced to morph into the best euro poker sites.

Whenever poker bills have been launched, often by former financial big-wig Barney Frank, Kyl has been there to stand in their way. When regulations allowing the UIGEA to be fully enforced were delayed last year, Kyl petulantly blocked the… READ MORE

Poker After Dark Season 7: PLO Cash Game

With TV networks surveying the carnage after Black Friday, it’s no surprise that the only shows to survive unscathed from the snafu are High Stakes Poker and Poker After Dark. Long time rivals, the productions have become very different animals of late. They now share little, beyond being a showcase for high profile poker.

The latest season of HSP has been more about fun-filled amateurs mixing it up with the big pros, than any kind of seriously interesting play. Poker After Dark, on the other hand, is a much more sombre affair with all manner of cerebral moments.

PAD benefits in this respect from having a skilled co-commentator, something HSP did away with two seasons ago. Last week, Andy Bloch was on hand to talk viewers through a rare Pot Limit Omaha cash game.

With Full Tilt banning their players from appearing on HSP, it seems only right that PAD should play host to one of the very few televised PLO games. Full Tilt famously plays host to the biggest and best Omaha games and perhaps the three most famous participants were on hand to showcase their skills.

Phil Ivey, Tom Dwan, and Patrik Antonius have traded millions back and… READ MORE

Department of Justice Makes Deal with Poker Sites

April 20th saw the Department of Justice make a deal with Full Tilt and PokerStars, agreeing to give them access to their original dot-com domain names. The deal was made in order to facilitate the withdrawal of American funds. American players have not had access to accounts since last Friday, so news of this deal was more than welcome.

The US Attorney’s Office released a statement that said freezing accounts held by these US friendly poker sites did not prevent them from releasing funds to their customers. It might take a few weeks for withdrawals to get underway and hit accounts, so both sites are asking their players to remain patient.

For some reason the agreement did not include UB or AP. This could lead some people to believe that Cereus is not interested in returning funds to its players. If you have money in AP or UB, though, don’t panic quite yet. The US government would be willing to strike the same deal with Cereus if it wanted to do so.

In other online poker news, the Million Dollar Challenge and the PokerStars Big Game will no longer be shown on the Fox network. PokerStars had invested a… READ MORE
