Players Rake in the Dough with PokerStars Anniversary

It is safe to say that PokerStars celebrated their tenth birthday in style. By giving out poker bonuses and hosting huge tournaments, records were shattered and millions of dollars were won. This entry will talk about the huge MTTs that took place this past month.

The first huge anniversary tournament was on December 4th, and it was the World Record Tournament. The guaranteed prize pool was $250,000, and the buy-in was only $1! PokerStars also capped the event at 200,000 people, which meant that they were adding at least $50,000 to the prize pool.

Despite the large number of players, the tournament only took 7 hours to complete. The final three remaining chopped the prize pool, with Russia’s Sokoluk1991 taking home the most at $40,258. Not bad for a $1 investment!

You may know that the Sunday Storm, an $11 Sunday tournament, usually has a guarantee of $200,000. For its anniversary, PokerStars decided to change the guarantee to $1 million on December 11th! They also put bounties on their pros: $100 for every Team PokerStars bust. If you wanted a way to earn extra PokerStars rakeback, this was it!

Remarkably, the tournament surpassed its guarantee since 116,400… READ MORE

Martin Finger Takes Down EPT Prague

Poker is as popular as it’s ever been in the Czech Republic, and a lot of it probably has to do with Martin Staszko’s runner up finish in this year’s WSOP Main Event. Just recently the WPT broke its record for a tournament in Europe after 571 people abandoned their Cake Poker download (among other sites) to buy-in to WPT Prague.

EPT Prague was just a short while after WPT Prague, and its numbers were also a resounding success. 722 people paid a €5.3k entry fee, creating a €3.5 million prize pool with €720k for first place.

One of the biggest names to just miss the final table was Chris Moorman, who busted in 15th place. Moorman is a superstar on the best Euro poker sites, and he has also had some recent success in brick-and-mortars. He recently had a huge cash at the World Series of Poker Europe, busting in 2nd place for a cool €800k.

The chip leader at the final table started as Nicholas Levi, but his stack quickly sunk to the bottom after getting coolered with bottom two against the top set of David Boyaciyan.

Despite the unlucky hand, it would be a while… READ MORE

Las Vegas Sands Executive Turns Back on Online Poker

Las Vegas Sands Chairman Sheldon Adelson surprised some online casino gambling advocates by publicly announcing that he does not support online poker. Adelson is the richest casino executive in the world, as he heads the Sands (the largest publicly traded casino-related company in the world). His position in the industry means that his words carry a lot of weight.

If you consider that Adelson has been a supporter of the Republican Party for a while, perhaps this statement isn’t all that surprising. He supports Arizona Senator Jon Kyl, who clearly does not support online casinos for USA players at all. This was seen a few years ago when he helped pass the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA), the first of many problems for online poker in the USA.

However, the puzzling thing regarding his statement is the fact that many other people in the industry believe that there is a lot to gain from regulating gambling in the United States. It also contradicts an article that was run in the New York Post that specified Adelson being in support of online poker at the federal level.

It seems that Adelson’s main concern with online gambling stems from… READ MORE

Lake Tahoe Circuit Event Won by Bryan Schultz

Since Americans can’t play on the William Hill Poker download, some of the most popular poker events in the U.S. are those of the World Series Poker Circuit. Despite attracting some of the best players in the world, the Main Event buy-ins aren’t ridiculously high. This allows even players with modest bankrolls to participate.

The buy-in for the recent Lake Tahoe circuit event was $1,600, with 327 players paying to take part. There were two Day 1s, and then 181 total players went on to play Day 2. Day 3, the final day, saw only 11 people make it. And then it took just 30 minutes for a 9-man final table to be formed!

Casey McCarrel was in a good spot when the final table started, but he was destined to be the first elimination. First he doubled Chris Clark up a few hands into the final table. A mere ten hands later, he got it in with an overcard and flush draw against Ron Segni’s top pair and busted.

Daniel Lowery decided to take Segni’s newfound chips in a pot where he hit a boat and Segni hit top two. Lowery then hit another boat versus Joe Fernandez,… READ MORE

PokerStars Looks to Set Records on their Tenth Anniversary

The 10th anniversary for PokerStars is coming up, and the site has decided to celebrate in style. They have announced some truly amazing tournaments for next month, which is sure to make December a month to remember for some poker players.

You may already know that back when PokerStars was one of the US friendly poker sites online, they broke the Guinness World Record for the biggest poker tournament in history. Back then an astounding 149,196 people played, but PokerStars thinks they can break this record yet again.

On December 4th the 10th Anniversary World Record Tournament will take place, and PokerStars wants at least 150k people to play. To help this happen, they have set the buy-in at a measly $1, but they have made the guaranteed prize pool an impressive $250k. To ensure incredible value for its players, the site has also capped the tournament at 200k players. When else can you play a tournament with GUARANTEED overlay?

PokerStars is the wrong place to go for video poker, but it is the right place to go for the Sunday Storm. Despite the small buy-in of $11, this tournament guarantees an impressive $200k every week! On December… READ MORE
