3 Return for Day 2 of the 2011 WSOP November Nine

A little over a week ago, I wrote about the final table of the WSOP Main Event. I didn’t finish it because it was getting way too long, so today I will talk about the remaining three players in what is the biggest event of casinos for USA players. When everything got started on Day 2 of the final table, Martin Staszko was the short stack with 35bb. Ben Lamb was just a bit ahead with 45bb, and Pius Heinz enjoyed the chip lead with a healthy 90bb.

Things got started very quickly. Lamb and Staszko got involved in a huge pot preflop which resulted in a flip: Lamb had KJ and Staszko held 77. Lamb’s good luck in the WSOP was apparently finished because he could not win this hand, and then he was soon finished off by Staszko’s JJ a few hands later. Although Lamb busted in 3rd place, he still wowed the world by becoming the WSOP Player of the Year for 2011.

Poker fans around the world were about to be treated with one of the most epic heads-up battles of all time. In total there would be 120 hands over a grueling 6 hours.… READ MORE

Online Gambling Regulations in Washington

No one could claim that the path towards regulated online poker in American has been an easy one. Various powerful figures have been lending their weight to laws that would combat the UIGEA, but so far no one has come close to succeeding. However, the winds are changing in Washington and another push for legal online poker is underway.

The House of Representatives is no stranger to online poker, thanks to the constant efforts of Barney Frank. By contrast, the Senate have not touched the issue since the original UIGEA was passed in 2006.

That’s all changed this week, thanks to a full blown hearing having been held. It was entitled ‘Future of Internet Gaming: What’s at Stake for Tribes?’ and took place on November 17th. It concerned how the existing online gambling marketplace is affective Native American groups and what a regulated market might mean for them. It was designed to consider not only poker, but games like real money slots.

It’s almost traditional in the U.S. for Indians to run casinos and many are understandably concerned about the impact of online gambling on their lifestyles. The hearing was called to consider how the influx of offshore providers… READ MORE

6 Bust During Day 1 of the 2011 WSOP November Nine

The Main Event of the World Series of Poker has been the most prestigious live tournament for quite some time now. It is the dream of everyone to win it, from new players to world class professionals on the PKR download.

6,865 players paid $10,000 to participate in the tournament over four Day 1s, and it was further thinned out by two Day 2s. Play was scheduled to be stopped on Day 8 when only nine players remained. The November Nine was scheduled for 109 days later on November 6th.

All of Pius Heinz, Anton Makiievsky, Bob Bounahra, and Sam Holden were less than 50 big blinds deep when the final table started. These stacks gave them a little breathing room, but they knew that it would be a good idea to pick a spot in the near future to avoid blinding out. The chip leader of the table was Martin Stazsko who had over 80 bigs in his stack.

It remained 9-handed until the 51st hand took place. Holden was the first victim as he shoved AJs into Ben Lamb’s AK. Holden was out in 9th place, and everyone else was guaranteed at least $1,010,015 thanks to the… READ MORE

In the past few years the World Poker Tour has been really living up to its name with brand new events being created all over the world. WPT Amneville is a great example of this, and it took place at the Seven Casino d’Amnéville in Amneville, France.

The total prize pool of the tourney was €1,164,288 thanks to the 379 willing to pay €3,500. The resulting first place prize was an impressive €310,633. Have you ever seen a prize this huge on the Titan Poker download?

There were a few notable players who just missed the final table. Joseph Cheong came up just short in 11th place for €11,926, and Arnaud Mattern busted a little before that in 14th place.

The tourney was a five day 6-max event, and Scott Baumstein held the chip lead from Day 2 to the final table. Talk about a phenomenal achievement! It soon became clear how Baumstein had held onto the largest stack for so long: he was playing nearly every pot at the final table.

Despite all the action, it took almost two and a half hours for the first elimination to occur. Adrien Allain went on a hot streak: first he… READ MORE

The action continued as Drazen Ilich got in the last of his chips with KK against the JT of Bob Chow on a 983 flop. Ilich was ahead when the chips went in, but a 7 was dealt on the turn and he was sent to the rail.

Joe Hebda didn’t wait long to bust after Ilich as the very next hand he shoved AT into Aaron Steury’s JJ. Steury faded the AT, and Hebda had to settle for 6th place.

Quickly afterward another huge pot went down between Dave Neff and Crain. Because Crain… READ MORE
