How to Save Money in Vegas

A few days ago I wrote about free things to do in Vegas during your days off. Don’t even think about that Bingo bonus during your free days because the Strip has a lot to offer when it comes to cheap entertainment. Keep reading for a list of cheap activities that will keep you away from the Bingo cards.

Everybody enjoys eating, so I’ll get started by mentioning the food deals. Shrimp-lovers should try the deal offered by the San Francisco Shrimp Bar & Deli. For just $1.99, you get shrimp with crackers, topped off with homemade sauce and lemon wedges.

If you need some meat to go with your shrimp, the Hard Rock Hotel is the place for you. For just $7.77, you can feast on steak and shrimp any time of the day at Mr. Lucky’s. You get the works with this meal: steak and three shrimp, mashed potatoes, salad, and a dinner roll. Take note that you’ll need to put in a special request for it as you won’t find it anywhere on their menu.

If you want a place to blow your wad on drinks, head over to the Plaza. You can get well drinks… READ MORE

Changes for PokerStars Player this Year in Vegas

Because of the US indictments back on April 15th, people residing in the US are no longer able to download PokerStars. Everyone else in the world received a much better fate as they are still welcome to play on the site, but they have still been affected by some changes that have resulted.

Some of the changes have been good. Here is an example: Europeans were dealt a SCOOP schedule that was much more European-friendly than in other years. Some of the changes have been bad, however. An example: tournaments now have much smaller prize pools than before.

Some people will also be disappointed about the lack of PokerStars presence at the WSOP this summer. Years past have enjoyed some huge WSOP incentives courtesy of PokerStars. For example, there was a year that saw people automatically become Supernova just for playing the Main Event donning a PokerStars logo. They also had final table incentives for those willing to sport PokerStars gear during the November Nine.

All of this was back when PokerStars was one of the best US poker sites on the Internet. With all their recent problems with the Department of Justice, they are not taking any… READ MORE

All About Poker Tournaments

When most people dream of becoming a successful poker player, they imagine themselves winning huge first place prizes in tournaments. Whether it’s live or in online poker rooms, it’s hard to match the excitement of going deep in an event with a gigantic prize pool. If you have never tried playing tournaments before, you have come to the right place. This entry will tell you everything you need to know about getting started with tournaments.

Unless it is explicitly stated in the rules, you are unable buy-in again if you bust a tournament. Everyone starts with the same number of chips, and the goal is to be the last man standing. Everyone pays the same amount to enter the tournament, and then a percentage of the field receives a prize once most of the players have been eliminated. The closer you finish to first place, the more money you win.

Tourneys also differ from ring games due to the fact that the blinds go up based on a pre-determined timeline. Constantly escalating blinds suggests that people are required to take risks to build their stacks and avoid busting.

If you have played plenty of cash games on the READ MORE

Online Poker Players Look to Move to Australia

People currently living in the United States no longer have a lot of options when it comes to playing poker. PokerStars, UB, and Full Tilt Poker no longer accept Americans, so you will need to go with a smaller network if you want to play online. For instance, you might want to go with a True Poker download. Your other choice is to play live poker.

Small sites and live play just wont do it for a lot of Americans, and so they are thinking of moving to a new country. Obviously this is not a great choice for players with families or jobs, but others might realize that it is a chance for them to see the world. Today I will talk about the possibility of moving to Australia.

It may sound like a good idea to move to Australia so that you can continue to earn PokerStars rakeback, but don’t be too hasty. The first thing to figure out is what kind of documents are required for entry into the country.

To get into Australia, you must obtain an electronic travel authority, otherwise known as an ETA. An application for this has to be made outside… READ MORE

Kiev Hosts Full Tilt Poker Series in July

Because Full Tilt and PokerStars aren’t US friendly poker sites anymore, they have had to focus their attention on different parts of the world. Right now I will focus on a live series in Ukraine hosted by Full Tilt Poker.

There are three Full Tilt Poker series for Russia and Ukraine: one in July, one in September, and one in November. Each series is a week long and takes place in Kiev. July and September feature Main Events that cost $1.5k, and the Grand Final in November features a $2.5k buy-in. The estimated total prize pool across the three series is $1 million.

If traveling to Ukraine for poker sounds good to you, Direct Qualifiers run twice a week on Full Tilt. They are scheduled for 10:00 EST every Sunday and Wednesday for $163. The tournament on Sunday guarantees five live event seats, and the Wednesday event awards a minimum of three seats.

If you win your seat online, you get a huge bonus prize: exclusive Academy Lessons from Nikolay Evdakov and Vitaly Lunkin. If you are looking to improve at poker, this is a hundred times better than an online poker video.

If your bankroll can’t sustain… READ MORE

Lederer and Ferguson Resign From PPA Board

Following the Black Friday indictments, most of the world’s ire has been directed at PokerStars, Full Tilt, Absolute Poker, and UB. The latter three, in particular, have come under attack for continuing to block U.S. withdrawals, despite reaching an agreement with the U.S. government. All in all it’s been a bad time for the former top texas holdem sites.

However, other ancillary groups have also caught some flack. The Poker Players Alliance claim to have worked tirelessly for years to promote the case of online poker on Capitol Hill, yet their efforts did nothing to prevent the problems of recent weeks or seriously advance any bills that would legalize online poker.

Despite this, the PPA continue to lobby Washington and are still seen as a positive force by many onlookers. What might have called their impartiality into question was the presence of two Full Tilt founders on the PPA board. Both Howard Lederer and Chris Ferguson were part of the decision making team, but have now resigned from these positions.

Although the details of Full Tilt’s origins are shrouded in mystery, Lederer is widely regarded as one of the instigators. It is reported that Ferguson was instrumental in developing… READ MORE

Multi-Table Tournaments on Carbon Poker

This entry will consist of a Carbon Poker review for tournament players. Poker is attractive to people because it offers an opportunity to score huge, and the quickest way to a jackpot is often via large field tournaments. Carbon Poker has tons of options for tournaments, and they range from those with guarantees to those only for ladies.

The tournament schedule on Carbon Poker contains tournaments with guarantees at all hours of the day. They offer stakes to cater to bankrolls of various sizes. Where daily guarantees are concerned, there are two events that tie for the largest. You can play for a $7.5k guaranteed prize pool for either $22 or $33. For a chance to win big, you will want to play on the weekend. Saturday is host to a $33 freeze-out with a $12,500 guaranteed prize pool. Win even bigger on Sunday in the $109 freeze-out with $50,000 guaranteed.

I already mentioned that there are ladies only tournaments, many of which carry guarantees. They are generally very low buy-ins, but even someone that plays higher buy-ins might like the rebuy events.

If you enjoy bounty tournaments, the Carbon Poker download is a good choice. Advocates of… READ MORE

Play WSOP Satellites on Cake Poker

If you love online poker but live in the United States, you should consider making a Cake Poker download. The problems PokerStars and Full Tilt have had with the US Department of Justice have increased Cake’s traffic, and they offer a generous 110% first deposit bonus.

Cake Poker has joined the fun and is offering ways to get into WSOP 2011. Like a lot of other poker rooms, the site offers both a Main Event package and also a smaller Vegas package. The value of the Main Event package is $13,000, and the value of the smaller package is $2.5k.

Players have had the option to play WSOP qualifiers since the first of March. To find them, visit the Satellite section under the Tournament tab. Main Event packages will be up for grabs until June 19th.

Play the Series 2011 Final every Sunday at 16:00 ET. It costs $490 to buy-in and 1 Main Event package is given per $13,000 in the prize pool. None of the Finals have a guarantee, however. If the prize pool ends up being less than $13,000, the top three players in the tourney will receive allocations of the prize pool based on a… READ MORE
