Senator Jon Kyl Softens His Anti-Poker Stance

The maelstrom that was Black Friday has thrown up all sorts of interesting results. Among them, renewed chatter about the potential for online poker’s legalization. As the news of the DoJ’s indictments spread to the mainstream media, more and more outlets are discussing the likelihood of a regulated and taxed online poker market.

This has also spurred politicians and advocacy groups to up their rhetoric, almost all of them calling for the full legalization of online poker or condemning the strong-arm tactics of the FBI. Posting on a poker forum to lodge your outrage has become a regular occurrence.

One member of the Capitol Hill brigade you’d least expect to lend poker a sympathetic voice is Jon Kyl. The Arizonan senator was one of the prime supporters of the UIGEA . The 2006 bill effectively outlawed online gambling and practically ripped the industry in two. The list of PartyPoker were forced to morph into the best euro poker sites.

Whenever poker bills have been launched, often by former financial big-wig Barney Frank, Kyl has been there to stand in their way. When regulations allowing the UIGEA to be fully enforced were delayed last year, Kyl petulantly blocked the… READ MORE

Cheap WSOP Satelites on Tiger Gaming

Today’s article will highlight yet another poker site running WSOP satellites. I wasn’t joking when I said that all the sites online offer Main Event qualifiers at this time of year! Today I will talk about Tiger Gaming, a skin of the Action Poker Network. This site does not accept players from the US.

Tiger Gaming’s Main Event package is worth $13k. To win it, you must play the $20k WSOP Final Event at 19:00 ET on June 11th. You pay $60 to enter the event ($55 to prize pool, $5 as rake), and the prize pool will be a minimum of $20,000. The winner of the tournament will receive 65% of the total prize pool, which means that the smallest prize they can win is the $13k ME package. In an event in which the prize pool exceeds the guarantee, the first place winner will receive even more than this!

If you know your way around a slot machine download better than a poker download, then you might not want to risk too much money on the WSOP Final Event. In this case you should give the preliminary satellites a try. There are two ways to do… READ MORE

PartyPoker recently was merged with bwin to create the largest Internet gaming site in the world. Site users have the option to play casino games, bingo, free bet sportsbooks, and poker. PartyPoker currently has a number of WSOP promotions so that fans of Texas Holdem can try to win their way to Vegas.

PartyPoker has been running World Series of Poker satellites since February, and they will keep doing so until June 19th. The Main Event packages have a $14k value, with most of it funding your Main Event seat of $10k. To win one of these prize packages, you will need to play the $700+$50 WSOP Satellite that runs daily at 15:20 ET. A $14,000 WSOP package will be given out for every twenty players that enter.

If $750 seems like a lot to pay for a poker tournament, you can play the $70+$5 WSOP Satellite Qualifiers. These qualifiers run daily at 3:10 PM ET and 8:40 PM ET. The top 10% of the field will receive… READ MORE

Poker After Dark Season 7: PLO Cash Game

With TV networks surveying the carnage after Black Friday, it’s no surprise that the only shows to survive unscathed from the snafu are High Stakes Poker and Poker After Dark. Long time rivals, the productions have become very different animals of late. They now share little, beyond being a showcase for high profile poker.

The latest season of HSP has been more about fun-filled amateurs mixing it up with the big pros, than any kind of seriously interesting play. Poker After Dark, on the other hand, is a much more sombre affair with all manner of cerebral moments.

PAD benefits in this respect from having a skilled co-commentator, something HSP did away with two seasons ago. Last week, Andy Bloch was on hand to talk viewers through a rare Pot Limit Omaha cash game.

With Full Tilt banning their players from appearing on HSP, it seems only right that PAD should play host to one of the very few televised PLO games. Full Tilt famously plays host to the biggest and best Omaha games and perhaps the three most famous participants were on hand to showcase their skills.

Phil Ivey, Tom Dwan, and Patrik Antonius have traded millions back and… READ MORE

Annual PokerStars SCOOP

If you chose the PokerStars bonus code because you love huge prize pools, you will be pleased to know that SCOOP is just around the corner. SCOOP is an acronym for Spring Championship of Online Poker, and it is a series of online tournaments with huge guaranteed prize pools. Last year, when PokerStars was still the best online poker site for Americans, the events started much later in the day than this. Since US players are no longer permitted on the site, the start times were changed to accommodate more European players.

This series has been designed to suit the needs of all kinds of players. There are, of course, plenty of No Limit Holdem tournaments. Event 1 features 6-max at buy-ins of $22, $215, and $2,100, and the guaranteed prize pools are $200k, $500k,… READ MORE

Department of Justice Makes Deal with Poker Sites

April 20th saw the Department of Justice make a deal with Full Tilt and PokerStars, agreeing to give them access to their original dot-com domain names. The deal was made in order to facilitate the withdrawal of American funds. American players have not had access to accounts since last Friday, so news of this deal was more than welcome.

The US Attorney’s Office released a statement that said freezing accounts held by these US friendly poker sites did not prevent them from releasing funds to their customers. It might take a few weeks for withdrawals to get underway and hit accounts, so both sites are asking their players to remain patient.

For some reason the agreement did not include UB or AP. This could lead some people to believe that Cereus is not interested in returning funds to its players. If you have money in AP or UB, though, don’t panic quite yet. The US government would be willing to strike the same deal with Cereus if it wanted to do so.

In other online poker news, the Million Dollar Challenge and the PokerStars Big Game will no longer be shown on the Fox network. PokerStars had invested a… READ MORE

Chad Elie and Bradley Franzen Plead Not Guilty

The Department of Justice has given an indictment to eleven people involved with payments to and from Full Tilt, PokerStars, and the Cereus sites. The alleged crimes committed include money laundering and conspiracy to commit bank fraud. Payment processors that served the three money poker sites are also among those charged.

Bradley Franzen chose to plea not guilty to a US magistrate in New York. Franzen is a payment processor and has been accused of creating fake businesses and sites in order to hide transactions with poker sites. He is also accused of tricking banks about these transactions.

FBI agents saw Franzen surrender himself in New York yesterday. He was released on a $200k bond that was secured by the home of his parents. If he is found guilty of conspiracy to commit bank and wire fraud, he could receive up to 30 years in prison.

Also pleading guilty is Chad Elie, another payment processor for online poker rooms. Charged for bank/wire fraud and money laundering, he was arrested on the 15th in Las Vegas. Like Franzen, he has been accused of tricking banks about transactions to poker sites.

Elie was due to get married the day after… READ MORE
