Negreanu Turns the Tables On Isildur1 in SuperStar Showdown

The PokerStars SuperStar showdown has rarely been so popular as in these last few weeks. Nosebleed shark and PokerStars Download pro Viktor “Isildur1” Blom has been taking on all comers in this weekly heads-up cash game, recording an impressive winning record to date.

Last week was his most high profile victory, crushing Daniel Negreanu for his entire buy-in before the 2,500 hand limit had elapsed. He might as well have spent his money on internet slots. Yesterday, the Canadian veteran returned for more punishment, buying in for another $150,000 across four tables of No Limit Texas Hold’em.

For a good long while, the match looked like a carbon copy of last week’s Isildur bulldozer and Negreanu was being outplayed and out-drawn on a regular basis. Despite changing to a more aggressive style he found himself stuck a sizeable amount in the early going.

His luck wasn’t helping either. He ran big hands into Kings and Aces three times and was punished by some horrible suckouts. The most gut-wrenching saw him flop a flush that included a 5, only to be out drawn by JJ when the cards ran out runner-runner 5s to compete Blom’s full house.

Gus Hansen Continues Hot Streak

A few years back, Gus Hansen was the all-conquering three time WPT champion at the zenith of the game, but a few quiet years have pushed the Great Dane out of the spotlight. In 2011, Gus seems determined to re-establish himself as one of the best in the world. He has been lighting up the nosebleed games on the Full Tilt Poker Download, winning more than any other player so far this year.

Earlier in the week his assault on the ring games had faltered a little. Playing 2-7 Triple Draw against O Fortuna PLS, he shipped $500,000 to his opponent. So it was with trepidation that fans of the Danish wonder watched as he hit the tables again a few days later.

Railbirds need not have feared, however. Gus started by crushing Arabiannight in the $500/$1000 PLO game. He took his victim for $150,000 in just 250 hands. As if that weren’t enough, he then moved on to battle Full Tilt Pro Andreas Torbergson. The player known as skjervoy online is a PLO specialist at the best online poker sites, but all those skills couldn’t prevent him from shipping $172,000 in Gus’s direction.

That haul meant the… READ MORE

Play the Main Event for UB and Win $1 Million

This year’s WSOP schedule has been revealed and now the best online poker sites are trying to decide what to include in their promotions. The theory is this: if they can convince a large number of skilled poker players to wear their patch, they have a better chance of having one of their players make the final table. Most of the Main Event champions have been PokerStars players or have signed with PokerStars after winning. UB is one of many sites online that hopes that 2011’s champion will not be another PokerStars player!

It starts with a bunch of satellites. WSOP Main Event seats can be won though Step Tournaments, Super Satellites, or one of two 25 Seats Guaranteed events. These 25-seat guaranteed tournaments will run June 12th and June 26th. You can satellite into these special tournaments or you can buy-in directly for $530.

Ultimate Bet for Mac is encouraging their players to compete for additional seats even after you secure a spot in the event. If you can win an additional Main Event seat, you receive $12k cash and a point on the King of Satellites leaderboard. The site is handing out Tournament Dollars to the top… READ MORE

This past weekend the PokerStars download set a record with their $215 Sunday Million. They even threw in a Lamborghini for the first place winner!

Most expected the prize pool to surpass $5 million, but the actual prize pool of almost $12 million exceeded everyone’s expectations. An incredible 59,128 players paid the $215 entrance fee, and people fought until the bitter end for paydays in the 6 and 7 figures.

Plenty of PokerStars pros cashed the event, including Liv Boeree and Jason Mercier. Gualter Salles was the highest finishing PokerStars Pro.

It was not a huge surprise that once the final table was formed, a deal was agreed upon so that everyone could claim a 6-figure cash.
